If the headspace is too short, ammunition that is in specification may not chamber correctly. If headspace is too large, the cartridge case may rupture, possibly damaging the firearm and possibly injuring the shooter.
Additional shipping may apply to barrels and bolts being sent in for headspacing

Got this service for an AR-10 build which you need to pay closer attention to the headspacing since they're not as standardized as AR-15s. Also the boom is bigger so if a catastrophic failure on a .223 didn't scare you a .308 should so the extra assurance isn't a bad idea.
